Dark Winter: Last rites is his last instalment in his Dark Winter trilogy and is available to pre order here.
To celebrate John's new release I decided to interview him get into the mind of this fabulous horror writer.
Me: Who is your all time favourite vampire?
John: The answer for 1 - is that a vampire someone else created, or
one of my own?
If it is the first part, it has to be Carmilla, from the book of the same name, though Lestat
de Lioncourt runs a close second.
If it is one of my own, it has to be the 'adult' Juliana....though the 40-ish Mariana would
at least try seduction before the kill xD
Me: If you were to murder someone, what would your weapon of choice
John: Probably a chainsaw. Guns and the resulting blood splatter would leave too many clues. I would also use nunchuks I
Me: Would you rather be killed by a vampire or sired?
John: That’s a tricky question because becoming a vampire would result in immortality. Would one get bored? I’d hope
not. In the end I think I would rather try being one. Being dead is so boring.
Me: If you had to kill a vampire, how would you do it?
John: The traditional ways of a take through the heart and a decapitation are all good. But I would make sure I had
weakened the vampire too, using garlic, holy water, a crucifix, and any other tool at my disposal.
Me: If you could have any super power, what would it be?
John: Invisibility. I think we should practice that more in real life than we actually do. There’s too much visibility required
Me: How often do you write?
John: These days, it is pretty much every day. I used to stop on weekend but I have too many projects I need to do. So I
just keep writing in the belief that good stories will come from my efforts.
Me: How did you get into writing?
John: I was compiling notes as I often did in order to make my teaching of martial arts even more effective. These notes
became too many, so I put them into a Word document. Two years later, I had completed my first book.
Me: What are you working on at the moment?
John: Provisionally entitled ‘The Last Word’, it’s a crime thriller with a touch of the paranormal to it. This is the initial
Ellis Goodrich is the best selling author of vampire horror, high school ghost stories, and noir crime thrillers. For
the last fifteen years, he has been married and happily so, to his high school sweetheart, Alice Creed. Ellis is
thinking of getting out of the writing business for a while a jaded author who wants to write something different, but
is not sure what.
His wife wants him to pen a romance novel, just for her. She hasn’t told him, but a meeting with a gypsy fortune
teller reveals a hidden killer inside – Alice is suffering from ovarian cancer, and it’s terminal.
If Ellis is somehow convinced to write Just One More Story, he might just be able to save her. But then those that
helped him will want payment, but he finds their price a little to high to pay.
And that won’t do….won't do at all....
