What you Need to know
about KDP promo days
Then reality hit. Amazon did not set the book on promo.
Two hours later, she still waited.
NINE hours after the book should have been placed on promo, it went live.
But it was too late. Her Headtalker campaign had already taken place and the book missed the promo price. Can you imagine how aggravating that must be?
A few months back, author Sharon Brownlie had a similar experience. So did I. Although I am located on the east coast, my book promos never go live before 6 a.m. Eastern time -- never. I'm under the assumption that Amazon is on a Pacific coast time frame. That still does not explain why promos would be six to nine hours late. Logic would dictate that my 3 a.m. would be midnight Pacific time, thus the promo would go live at 3 a.m. But Amazon is not logical.
So What's An Author To Do?
I've learned to set my books on KDP Select promos for 2-3 days at a time. When I set up multiple blog posts or crowdsourcing social media, I set them up for day two. Day one of a promo usually gets the most downloads. By using the crowdsourcing, it's possible to get day two to exceed day one's downloads, while ensuring you have enough time for Amazon to make their adjustments.
How did I get free downloads after my book was back to regular price?
Some authors have stated they received free downloads after the promo ended. I experienced this as well. My best guess is that it involves time zones and different markets. Check to see if they are on the other side of the world. If they are, GREAT!
